Wittmann group seeks township to halt BNSF plans

A group of Wittmann residents is attempting to climb into the conductor’s seat to move full steam ahead with hopes of getting enough signatures to become an Arizona town before the BNSF Railway hub is stationed in the northwest Valley rural area.

The Keep Us Rural LLC group is launching an incorporation effort to maintain community control and block BNSF from using 4,200 acres for its Logistics Park Phoenix rail hub project despite concerns expressed from more than 500 people who attended a May 6 community meeting in the Nadaburg Elementary School auditorium in Wittmann.

Keep Us Rural started the official Wittmann incorporation process with assistance from election attorney Tim La Sota. After filing the necessary paperwork, the group has 180 days to gather about 800 signatures from Wittmann residents, with an election happening up to 180 days thereafter, according to a press release from the group.
