With increase in train derailments in US, Phoenix lays out emergency response plan

In light of an uptick of train derailments in the U.S. this year, Phoenix first responders outlined their plans in the event of a derailment, particularly one involving hazardous materials.

Most derailments are freight trains rather than passenger trains and seldom involve injuries to those on board.

One particularly newsworthy derailment earlier this year showed the dangers hazardous materials on these trains can cause, said Phoenix Police Cmdr. Brian Lee.
