With Gila River Arena plans moving forward, Glendale off the market for Coyotes

Announcement of engineering firm HOK officially means no interim basis in play beyond 2022

While the Arizona Coyotes work to find home ice for the 2022-23 season, it won’t be in Glendale, even temporarily.

The city previously announced it was cutting ties with the National Hockey League franchise in the Glendale-owned Gila River Arena, inside the Westgate Entertainment District, which the team has called home since 2003. The biggest sticking point between the sides has been the franchise looking for short-term lease agreements to stay in Glendale, while the city has held to its desire for a long-term partnership “at least in the 15- to 18-year” range, Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps said back in August.

Talks stalled, and the city told the Coyotes this will be the team’s last season in Glendale when the current lease runs out on June 30.
