Surprise councilman kicked off ballot for invalid signatures

2-term councilman won't appeal

There will be a new councilman in Surprise District 1 next year.

Two-term councilman Roland Winters was booted off the ballot April 26 when Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Rodrick Coffey agreed that Winters had too may unqualified signatures on his election petition to remain on the ballot.

Winters, 79, was running for a third term on the council, but Surprise resident Matt Weiand had other ideas.
