Windsor: Here’s my response to 2 recent letters in newspaper

First, thank you Einar Kvaran for your response to Linda Perl’s anti-Free Press tirade in the Aug. 10 printing of the Independent and also your response to Tom Kampert’s irresponsible remarks comparing Biden to Hitler in the Aug. 26 printing.

Secondly, I must also respond to Tom Kampert’s submittals. (Aug. 18 and 6). I can’t help but wonder just how old Mr. Kampert is, if he is so readily able to make the comparison between Hitler’s regime and his “S.A., Brown Shirts, and the Waffen SS” to the Biden administration and three of our government agencies, IRS, ATF and FBI. I personally find it difficult to find any similarity at all.

Tom must be much older than I, (86) and he must have a much more vivid imagination than I as well. Part of his rationale could have come from a tweet from Republican U.S. Rep. Tim Burchett of Tennesse, where he (Burchett) casually asked, “Why do the 87,000 new IRS auditors need to ‘be willing to use deadly force?’” Burchett’s question was apparently based on a job posting by the IRS, wherein they are looking for criminal investigation special agents and that the applicants be willing to “carry a fire arm and be willing to use deadly force.”

Burchett found it reasonable (necessary) to, in essence, link this generic posting about special agent hiring to the administrations announcement to increase the IRS by 86,852 employees and thus falsely giving the impression that Biden now will have 86,853 armed IRS agents at his beck and call. Rep. Burchett’s statement: “Democrats want to hire 87,000 IRS auditors and recruit law enforcement agents who can use deadly force to seize money from the middle class.”

This statement is, in part, true; but it is important to make the distinction between auditors and agents and what their job description is. Auditors carry pencils. Also, I would hope that these “armed” agents do not slight the upper class (the rich) in their quest to “seize money,” or do Burchett and Kampert suggest that it is only the middle-class that cheat on their taxes?

Mr. Kampert then takes a whack at the Antifa and BLM movements, who “rioted and destroyed property, and attacked innocent people and even killing some.” Seemingly comparing their action to Jan. 6, where the participants merely “demonstrated at the Capitol and entered taxpayer-owned property.” And that, only because they were “egged on by known federal agents posing as Trump supporters.”

First, it was not a demonstration; it was an insurrection. Secondly, the insurrectionists didn’t just enter, they busted their way into the Capitol of the United States, breaking every door and window they could reach with their clubs and flag poles. I have a number of Kampert-like acquaintances that when asked what they thought about the Jan. 6 atrocity, state that they basically were not aware of what happened. Which, I find strange in that even Fox News covered it quite well.

Just in case, Tom, you can probably find videos of the Jan. 6 tragedy online.
