I want to thank the Daily Independent for their giving folks like me a spot where we can voice our opinions and comments and, as it should be, they strongly suggest that all contributions be expressed with civility and mutual respect.

This is not as easy as it sounds, particularly when opinions like the ones submitted by David Postgate are published (“Postgate: God will eternally damn the evil Democrats,” YourValley.net, Oct. 26, 2021). 

I can only conclude that after reading David’s offering, that God must be a registered Republican. And, not as forgiving as I have been told he or she was, at least where us liberal Democrats are concerned.

David’s belief is partly based on his belief that God, somewhere down the line, made a law which said “You will reap what you sow.” I don’t think one would call that a law. It’s more of an adage and a good one at that.

It must have been very difficult for David to have sat by during the last administration when deliberate hurt was administered on a daily basis and on more that one occasion. Your God was mocked. If not mocked, disrespected.

References to God, Jesus, the devil and the Bible aside, I thought Mr. Postgate was perhaps a bleeding heart liberal like myself. That was until I got to the last 2 paragraphs. Wow! God may be watching, but who is he watching?

If there is a hell, I’m sure there is a spot reserved for me; but it will not because of my politics. For that I need not repent.

I leave David with this: reread your entry and honestly judge it as though it was written by someone else. How would you accept this?
