William Joseph Burke

SUN CITY - William (Bill) Joseph Burke passed away Dec. 14, 2016, following a brief illness. A funeral mass will be held at St Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Sun City on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016, at 10 a.m. with a celebration of life reception at Palmbrook Country Club immediately following. Bill was born in Davenport, Iowa on March 30, 1940. He attended St. Joseph high school in DeWitt, Iowa followed by St. Ambrose College in Clinton, Iowa. He was proceeded in death by his father, Arthur Burke; and his former wife, Sara Burke, who was the mother of his two children. He is survived by his mother, Mona Powers, of Sun City; two daughters, Julie Burke and Christine (Chuck) Woods, both of Ankeny, Iowa; grandchildren Nate, Tiffani, Nic and Tyler Woods; a brother, Bob (Sylvia) Burke, of Urbandale, Iowa; nieces and nephews. Bill had a love of golf, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He enjoyed retirement in Sun City, where he met and shared his life with Carol Karstens.
