William "Bill" C. Leonard, 84, passed away at his home in Surprise, AZ, on October 28, 2018. He was born in Youngstown, OH to William C. Leonard and Ann (Rice) Leonard. Bill served in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean War. While stationed in Alameda, California, he met his beloved wife, Christine. They were happily married for over 62 years. Bill earned an Associate degree in elementary education from San Jose City College and later earned a Bachelor's and a Master's degrees in Art Education from the University of Oregon.In 1968, Bill was appointed head of the Graphic Arts Service in the University of Oregon Library. He worked there until 1992, retiring as Emeritus Professor of Library Administration.Bill was an avid motorcycle rider, both on and off road, and was a life member of the American Motorcycle Association. He also was a long-time member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. Bill was a member of the American Legion Sun City West Post 94 and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a life member of the Eugene, OR Chapter of the Elks.Bill is survived by his wife, Christine, and their children, Michelle Thurman of Pasadena, CA and Gregory Leonard of Linlithgow, Scotland and six grandchildren: Taylor, Aubrey, and Connor Thurman; Carson, Hunter and Beckett Leonard. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Gloria Delaplane.Bill will be buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. Arrangements are being handled by Camino Del Sol Funeral Home in Sun City West. Funeral services are private.
