The auction runs from 8:30 a.m. to noon, Friday, Dec. 8 at the prison complex 1 mile east on Butte Avenue from the intersection of AZ-79 and Butte Avenue.
Some of the animals available at the event have been trained/gentled by Arizona Correctional Industries trainers and a training fee is applied along with the Bureau of Land Management adoption fee. Untrained animals are $125, trained horses start at $1,000 and trained burros start at $500.
Along with the auction there will be training demonstrations.
“The Arizona Wild Horse and Burro Training and Holding Facility opened in May 2013. The facility is a partnership between the BLM and Arizona Correctional Industries, through Arizona Department of Corrections. The facility has a capacity of 1,000 wild horses and burros. Wild horses and burros are moved from the holding area to be gentled and trained by inmates to enhance adoptability,” according to the BLM website.
