OPINION — Corporate deals get struck every day in the United States. Sometimes the most important are those that never happen.
Recently, a battle was waged between two corporate giants trying to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery. For weeks, it looked as if Netflix would prevail, an outcome that would have joined the largest streaming service with one of the largest TV and movie companies.
Yet Netflix ultimately stepped away from the acquisition, leaving Paramount Skydance to purchase Warner. It was the right move. Had Netflix prevailed, it would have created one of the starkest concentrations of power in the history of the entertainment industry.
