Why aren’t police talking about ICE detention plans?

OPINION — After attending the Feb. 3 city council meeting and reviewing subsequent opinion pieces in the Surprise Independent, one glaring omission remains: there has been no clear public discussion of the Surprise Police Department’s role in relation to ICE enforcement.

This silence is unacceptable.

Our community deserves direct and transparent answers. Will our local police officers be drawn into federal immigration actions? Will they be placed in the middle of volatile situations — standing between peaceful protesters and federal agents whose tactics, in other cities, have raised serious concerns?
