Which Arizona attractions are more accessible?

Locals suggest best spots for those with mobility concerns

Posted

My husband and I are visiting Arizona, more specifically Flagstaff, Grand Canyon, etc, in four weeks for the first time. Any suggestions on places to go, things to see in that area? We’ll be in Flagstaff for three nights, but after that, we’re going wherever the wind blows us ... I’m disabled, but mobile and can walk short distances. I would love to hike, but it’s just not possible.Terri Wood

The best

Jerome, Prescott downtown or go to many lakes close by. Sedona has West Fork of Oak Creek Canyon to walk, eat down by the University ... in Flagstaff, Williams is awesome, Grandview Lookout at Grand Canyon, really any lookout there. Enjoy State 48! It is the best!Melisse Chambers Goff

We hired Grand Canyon Journeys tour company for a private tour of the Grand Canyon. It was great because they drive right up to the vantage points and give you a history of the Grand Canyon. The price includes a nice lunch at the historic El Tovar restaurant, admission to Grand Canyon, and they pick you up and drop you off at your hotel. I highly recommend them!Terrie Thompson Longo

Small towns

Make sure you get the passes to get into the Grand Canyon if they are still limiting visitors to the Rim. Have fun. Our state has many things to do, just a tad spread out so gas will be your big expense. Williams is a cute little place to visit, a few places to eat. Just enjoy the small town life.Jeanette M. Cornered

Make sure you go stand on the corner in Winslow, it is wheelchair accessible, and visit the train station, too. It is located at a beautiful old hotel with an awesome restaurant, too. They have a couple of nice places to eat and a great gift shop on the corner.Susan Walker Finfrock

Shop smart

Drive down Oak Creek Canyon, it is an amazing drop and beautiful scenery. Be sure to stop at the lookout at the top to view all the native American jewelry and other handmade art. If you find something you like buy it here, because once you are in Sedona it will be four times as much and no guarantee it is real either.Lisa Barksdale

I love the Flagstaff downtown. There are many shops. The area is just up from the train station, called Old Town. The shopkeepers are so nice. You can get some ice cream and watch folks walk by. I enjoyed my time there a few months ago so much. Ask the shop keepers where their favorite places are, they are so happy to share.Joanne Arizona

When you get to the gate at Grand Canyon ask for the “handicap access” card; it’s free and will get your family into places at the canyon no one else can go! Up close and amazing places at the canyon. Don’t miss out...Barbara Kepler
