Spring training is in full swing across the Cactus League, and that means one thing: baseball dreams are within reach for players.
All that extra work, all those reps, all the batting cage swings, and all the bullpen sessions for live arms. It’s been a journey for players from youth ball through high school or college. A roster spot in the big leagues is tantalizingly close.
Some won’t make it there, though. It’ll feel crushing. “It was like coming this close to your dreams,” the character Archibald “Moonlight” Graham, who never got to bat in the majors, laments in “Field of Dreams,” “and then watch them brush past you like strangers in a crowd.”
