Chandler resident: Real friendships withstand disagreements, life challenges

OPINION — At 68, I've learned that one of life’s most important lessons is understanding the difference between acquaintances and true friends.

Friendship is easy when everything is going well. Most people can be friendly when there are no difficult choices, no disagreements and no hardships. The real test comes when life takes an unexpected turn.

A job is lost. A health problem arises. A relationship ends. A controversy emerges. Suddenly, some people drift away while others stay.
