What kind of Christmas are we living in?

Posted

OPINION — Season’s Greetings from the devil, cheating our local businesses, their employees and Arizona government. We all look for sales and go online for better deals. We go to stores, look at products, try on clothes, ask sales people questions, buy nothing, then go home and go online.

No one wants to pay sales taxes. Arizona can collect the state sales tax online, but what about our counties and towns? Are we really cheating ourselves?

Arizona knows the source of every online sale. Half of the online state sales taxes collected should go to the town or county of origin.

We are paying for schools, fire and departments, sewer and water. A state sales tax rebate to local government should result in lower local taxes.

Retail employees should get a bonus based on Zip codes in their stores' areas. Retailers know the ZIP codes of all online sales. Those store’s employees make those sales possible.

Be prepared to be manipulated by the retailers when you buy online. Local stores will have more selection, but at higher prices, with lower inventory, to force you to panic and buy or go online and buy at what you think is a lower price.

With artificial intelligence — AI — retail giants are watching your buying habits. They know you have no loyalty to your community: to local government or business owners or local employees who may be your neighbors.

Best of all: you will go into credit card debt to keep the system going.

The devil wants you to live “in the here and now.” What kind of Christmas are we living in?
