What families don't know about in-home care — and should

Arizona industry professionals identify gap at state level and unite to address it

OPINION — You’ve noticed that your aging parent is having a hard time getting around. You both agree that getting someone to come to the home to help is a good idea. You start calling home-care agencies. They sound professional. You assume someone has made sure they’re legitimate.

In Arizona, that assumption is wrong.

Anyone in this state can start an in-home care agency tomorrow. No license, no state oversight, no required training. You don’t even need a physical place of business, meaning that it is possible that these caregivers are untrained and unable to provide the kind of professional assistance your aging loved one needs.
