Wet winter brings some relief to Valley’s water systems

Experts say state still needs years of wet weather to break even

The Valley and Arizona are reveling in a wetter-than-normal winter coming amidst a two-decade drought.

But even with some reservoirs at capacity, it would take years of similar weather to break the dry spell the region has been mired in.

With the amount of rain and snowpack the Valley has received this year, Salt River Project had to increase water releases from its two reservoirs on the Verde River to create storage capacity.
