This morning’s state visit to Westwood Elementary School in Phoenix turned into a national recognition for K-4 academic coach Angelica Garcia.
Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne joined Joshua Barnett, representing the Milken Family Foundation as CEO of the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching, to celebrate Westwood’s growth and honor Garcia as America’s newest Milken Educator Award recipient.
As students, colleagues, media and visiting dignitaries applauded, Garcia stepped up to receive her award, along with its unrestricted $25,000 cash prize.
