Western Cowboy Day Saturday at Superstition Mountain Museum
The Superstition Mountain Museum’s Western Cowboy Day will celebrate local history, cowboy lifestyle, Apacheland Movie Ranch and Native American culture 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18. This event is free for the whole family and is to be a rootin’ tootin’ good time.
This region was favored in the 1950s and ‘60s as a backdrop for many TV and movie westerns. Apache Junction and Gold Canyon played host to “cowboy” legends such as Ronald Reagan, John Wayne and Audie Murphy, but also was home to real-life cowboys like Superstition Mountain Historical Society founder Tom Kollenborn and Oscar-winner Ben Johnson.
Many of the original western movie actors are gone, but the legends and stories they created live on at the museum, 4087 E. Apache Trail (State Route 88) in Apache Junction.
