West Valley zoo requests donations for animal enrichment

Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari Park in Litchfield Park is asking for public assistance to help provide activity items used in the daily care of animals.

Zoo officials said the items help keep animals physically active and mentally engaged while allowing them to display natural behaviors such as exploring, climbing and foraging. A recently shared Amazon wishlist, created by zookeepers, outlines supplies used for that purpose.

The wishlist includes large inflatable balls, bells, monkey bars, snuffle mats and scratchers. Some items focus on scent-based stimulation, including cologne, which staff say can capture the interest of large cats by introducing new smells into their habitats.

According to zoo officials, the facility houses more than 600 species of animals. Staff rotate activity items regularly to maintain variety for the animals, officials said. Public donations allow caretakers to continue providing those supplies as part of routine animal care.

The wishlist is available through Amazon for those interested in contributing.
