Cactus football entered the 2020 season with the goal of winning the state 4A title. That was its unfinished business, not beating Mesquite.
The fact that tonight the Cobras will have to beat the Wildcats to win the 4A championship is merely icing on the cake. Mesquite edged Cactus 28-27 in a 2019 semifinal then won the state title a week later.
While the memory of a late multiple-possession reception Cactus believed was an interception and a failed two-point conversion the Cobras thought broke the plane linger, most of the players for #4 Cactus (8-2) tonight against #3 Mesquite (8-1) were not on the field a year ago.
