West Valley food bank among those applying for grant help

Glendale committee to discuss Hope For Hunger Food Bank, others as process advances

The Hope for Hunger Food Bank, located at 5605 N. 55th Ave., which serves Glendale residents and parts of Peoria, provides a lot more than just food distribution.

The center’s other offerings include empowerment services, case management services, and vocational development services, as part of the nonprofit’s operational costs. Phoenix Rescue Mission, founded in 1952, took over Hope For Hunger operations in 2017.

“Right now mainly because of COVID and the impact that it has had on communities with individuals losing their jobs, and uncertainties, or even just students being at home more which means that there’s more food being eaten at home. Sometimes those shortages can arise,” Phoenix Rescue Mission director of community engagement Jussane Goodman said Jan. 19.
