The Goodyear City Council has approved a new ordinance regulating electric bicycles and scooters, citing safety concerns as their use grows across the city.
The measure adds rules on where the devices can be used, how fast they can travel and who can operate them. It also establishes age limits, fines and DUI penalties.
Deputy Police Chief Jose Gonzalez said the ordinance is designed to create clear standards while aligning city ordinances with state law. Riders must follow posted speed limits and operate safely, he said, stating the goal is to reduce accidents and conflicts with pedestrians and vehicles.
