A West Valley brush fire that was reported under control the evening of May 2 erupted again overnight and on Sunday covered an estimated 980 acres, state officials said.
The fire in the southeast Buckeye area near the Gila River was 0% contained Sunday night and authorities have not determined its cause.
Firefighters remained at the scene overnight to continue to address hotspots threatening containment lines and to extinguish any spotfires, according to the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management.
