A brush fire Saturday afternoon in a Buckeye river bottom that closed State Route 85 has been contained at about 275 acres, authorities said.
Firefighters responded about 3 p.m. May 2 to Hazen and Rooks roads when the fire had burned about six acres. Crews from the Buckeye Fire Department were joined by the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management to strengthen containment lines as the fire moved in a west to southwest direction.
The Buckey Police Department shut down SR 85 as a precaution as the fire burned, producing smoke that could be seen from miles away.
