WeRIDE gains traction in West Valley

Microtransit program looks for expansion as cities test it out

Surprise has no regular bus service, no link to light rail and very few options for residents without cars to get around the growing city.

To help bridge the gap of virtually no public transportation, the city has been subsidizing a microtransit service called WeRIDE since the spring of 2023. It’s now entering its second year of full service to positive reviews from Surprise city councilmembers, despite threats earlier this year to cut the pilot program all together.

“As we have the money for it, I think it’ll be even better,” City Councilmember and mayor candidate Aly Cline said about the service.
