PHOENIX – Drivers should plan for detours and delays this weekend when State Route 143 is closed between Loop 202 and Interstate 10, state transportation officials said.

A traffic shift will require the closure from 10 p.m. Friday, March 7, until 10 a.m. Sunday, March 9. The ramps from Loop 202 to southbound SR 143 also will be closed, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation, which also announced:

• The southbound SR 143 on-ramps at Washington Street, Sky Harbor Boulevard and University Drive will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday until 10 a.m. Sunday.
• The westbound Loop 202 off-ramp at Sky Harbor Boulevard will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday until 10 a.m. Sunday.

SR 143 detour for westbound Loop 202: Use westbound Loop 202 to eastbound I-10 to reach destinations south of the closure.

SR 143 detour for eastbound Loop 202: Use eastbound Loop 202 to southbound Loop 101 to westbound Loop 202 to access destinations south of the closure. 

Airport access: Use southbound 44th from Loop 202.

When southbound SR 143 reopens, there will be new HOV lanes connecting westbound I-10 to northbound SR 143 and southbound SR 143 to eastbound I-10. In addition, dual HOV lanes will open in both directions on the I-10 mainline between US 60 and I-17.
