Weather Service places Maricopa, Pinal counties under heat warning through weekend

Temperatures could reach 117 degrees from Thursday through Monday in Maricopa and Pinal counties, triggering a National Weather Service extreme heat warning for the region.

  • From July 23-27, the NWS advises:

    1. Limit outdoor activity to when it’s coolest, like morning and evening hours.
    2. Visit an air-conditioned public space or nearest Heat Preparedness Network Locations in Arizona for free access to air conditioning and water.
    3. When feeling overheated, move to a cooler space, loosen tight clothing and apply wet cloths or ice packs to forehead, neck and ankles.
    4. Lower indoor temperatures by covering the windows and limiting stove and oven use during peak heat hours.
    5. Don’t wait until you feel thirsty to hydrate. Drink 1-2 glasses of water when you first wake up and sip throughout the day, especially before going outside.
    6. Avoid alcohol and drinks with high caffeine or sugar.
