OPINION — Nearly 130 people are shot and killed every day in this country, and countless more are injured or traumatized by gun violence. You may have been affected personally, as I have, or have seen the horror of mass shootings or accidental deaths in the news.
However, many people are not aware that steps can be taken to reduce the risk of gun deaths and injuries, which I am highlighting for June: National Gun Violence Awareness Month.
First, we can learn about securely storing firearms in homes and vehicles (locked, unloaded, & separate from ammunition), talk with friends and neighbors about safety, and support survivors and local prevention efforts.
