OPINION — The opposition to data centers around the country, such as Project Baccara near Luke Air Force Base, rarely mention that the need for these data centers is a result of the advent of artificial intelligence.
Unlike regular data centers, AI data centers handle large workloads requiring a combination of high computing power, massive data processing and storage. They have a large structural footprint and consume substantial amounts of energy.
Most AI data centers use more efficient and environmentally friendly natural gas generators for power and return unused power to the grid. They minimize water usage by recycling water and use the latest technology to minimize emissions. All-in-all, AI data center operators are reasonably good resource managers.
