While there has been some talk about desalinization or other efforts to bring “new” water into Arizona, nearly all of that effort is on hold and/or needs funding.
A plan initially set forth by then-Gov. Doug Ducey was to invest about $333 million per year, over three years, to create a $1 billion fund — managed by the Arizona Water Infrastructure Finance Authority — for a project to import water from outside of Arizona.
The first year was funded, but the succeeding years were not fully funded, leaving the WIFA with less than $400 million to work with now, according to a report from Capitol Media Services.
