Private water company EPCOR is asking for a nine-month extension from the City of Scottsdale to use the standpipe serving residents of the Rio Verde Foothills in what company officials say is a precautionary measure.
The company is working to create its own standpipe and water treatment facility to serve the community northeast of Scottsdale by Dec. 31, but EPCOR General Counsel and Vice President of Public Policy Tom Loquvam said the company is looking for a contingency plan just in case some unforeseen circumstances arise.
“Right now the construction is going well,” Loquvam said. “We’re only in preliminary stages right now but we don’t really see any obstacle to not completing by the end of the year, but to the extent that were not, there’s a supply chain difficulty or some other issue, we want to make sure we have the pieces in place now to make sure we have service to that community.”
