Waning days of Valley monsoon difficult to predict

An abundance of rain this summer has quenched some Valley residents’ thirst for something other than the sun, but forecasters don’t know if the clouds and wet weather will return.

Forecasters say its difficult to predict weather patterns to determine if the monsoon will last into September, according to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, Matthew Hirsch, a meteorologist, said there are equal chances weather could be average September weather or above or below normal for the month.

“In general, September is a lot less active than July and August,” Hirsch said. “September is typically a quieter month.”
