Wall concept picked for Surprise public safety area

Arts commissioners choose design at new facilities

City public art leaders have approved an art concept for the new Public Safety Evidence and Readiness Center and new Police and Fire Training Facility, which are expected to be completed later this year not far from Bell Road and Grand Avenue.

The Arts and Cultural Advisory Commission approved a wall designed by Weitzman Studios, plus an area of wildflowers, to surround for the $9 million evidence center, combined with the training facility.

“We wanted to build a wall around the facility and it be a secure wall that was appealing but not inviting,” Arts Commission liaison Danielle Osborne said at the May 3 arts commission meeting. “We wanted something that could be seen from afar and admired from afar but not something that people would want to go up in touch and scale the wall and go break inside the facility.”
