I’ve reviewed our two government proposals, Propositions 409 and 407, and decided that both total just under $1 billion.
Our children’s children are already indebted to our federal government in the amount of $38 trillion, and that’s not including the non-discretionary debt of Social Security and the two Medi’s. That’s in the neighborhood of $130 trillion.
I believe I’ll vote no on both 409 and 407.
To make matter worse, we’ve added another trillion dollars in federal debt just this year.
I’m sure the folks requesting the money have their livelihoods to consider and maybe even a little of ours, too. So, I decided to consider the value of what they’re selling.
Because these dollar amounts are tossed around like a copper penny, I found calculations that equate the size of a billion and a trillion in terms of seconds of time.
To consume a billion seconds in time would require approximately 31.5 years. A trillion? That would consume 31,688 years. A long time.
And if we’re borrowing in amounts that equate to something I can relate to — I don’t believe there is enough value in what 409 or 407 are selling to raise the needle above negative.
