The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department has launched a community survey inviting residents to participate in the renaming process for the park and community center located at 35th Avenue and Baseline Road, formerly known as César Chávez Park and Community Center.
Take the survey in English here or in Spanish here by Sunday, June 14.
The options listed on the survey are:
Arizona Sunset Park & Sunset Community Center
The majestic colors of the sky reflect off the park’s 28-acre lake and provide the community with spectacular views of Arizona’s sunsets.
Desert Oasis Park & Desert Oasis Community Center
The park’s lake is an oasis for a variety of Arizona wildlife. The lake provides a safe space for over 100 fowl and houses a variety of fish.
Aguila Park & Aguila Community Center
The word “Aguila” is Spanish for Eagle. The Aguila Golf Course, located on the same property, shares the same name. Eagles are prevalent near water sources and can be seen at the park and nearby South Mountain.
Laveen Park & Laveen Community Center
This name is inspired by the strong connection to the surrounding Laveen community.
Holstein Heritage Park & Holstein Heritage Community Center
Dairy farming has long been an important part of Laveen’s history and identity. The Holstein cow sculptures displayed in the park honor this agricultural heritage and celebrate the community’s deep-rooted traditions.
Farmworkers Park & Farmworkers Community Center
The park and surrounding properties were once farmland where alfalfa, cotton and produce were grown. These fields were cared for by hardworking residents who spent their days planting, tending and harvesting crops.

On March 23, the Phoenix City Council directed city staff to begin the process of renaming municipal facilities currently named after César Chávez. At the March 26 Parks and Recreation Board meeting, the Parks Board instructed staff to initiate the formal renaming process, which includes a public notification and hearing process.
The Parks and Recreation Department will present the results of the survey at the Parks and Recreation Board meeting on June 25 and provide a recommendation on a proposed name informed by the public feedback.
Residents are encouraged to participate and share their voice in this important community-driven process.
