A Wreaths Across America observance brought Apache Junction, Gold Canyon, Mesa and Queen Creek residents to a cemetery where they honored military veterans interred there.
Several hundred adults and children attended the Dec. 17 veterans remembrance ceremony and then helped to place 1,831 wreaths at graves at Mountain View Funeral Home & Cemetery, 7900 E. Main St. in Mesa.
More than 400 volunteers registered to help, said Gold Canyon resident Nancy Fassbender, who planned the local event. She is a member of the Pinal County Veterans Memorial Foundation board and was selected the 2020 Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame recipient.
