Volunteers collect Christmas toys for kids at Glendale Family Advocacy Center

Effort brings attention to important work going on at downtown service organization

Volunteers and members of the Glendale Police Department came together Thursday to bring Christmas toys to some of the city’s most in-need children.

The Sounds of the Southwest Singers, a nonprofit community singing group in town since 2010, hosted its annual dinner earlier this month to bring in donations for their annual toy drive. Once they had two full vehicles’ worth of goodies, the group approached the city about which local children could most benefit from the donations.

Mayor Jerry Weiers’ office recommended the Glendale Family Advocacy Center. Representatives from the Southwest Singers as well  members of the Glendale Police Department, which is located right across the street from the Center downtown, combined to deliver the toys just three days before Christmas.
