While both the activists who attended last year’s Cesar Chavez in Chandler and local volunteers were to be on a slightly different mission this year, the event still drew hundreds of people to a downtown park.
The “For Our City Day in honor of Cesar Chavez” on March 29 combined two events into one.
Andres Chavez, grandson of farmworker and labor activist Cesar Chavez and the executive director of the National Chavez Center, came to Chandler in March 2024 for small community service projects, a march and some speaking events, while “For Our City” is a community service day for Chandler businesses and organizations that is more than a decade old.
