Virlin Francis Caldwell

SUN CITY - Virlin Francis Caldwell, 97, of Sun City, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2013. Virlin Caldwell was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on May 25, 1916 to Albert and Lucille (Scheilley) Caldwell. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WW II in the Pacific as Chief Petty Officer on the USS Pontus. On military leave in 1945, Virlin married the former Dorothy Thomas. Virlin worked for International Harvester (Navistar) in Indianapolis for 39 years before his retirement in 1978 when he moved to Arizona. He had a 66-year membership in the Indianapolis Masonic Lodge #669. His retirement years found him on the golf course until Dorothy developed Alzheimer's disease in 1992, which she succumbed to in 2007. He provided compassionate and extraordinary care of Dorothy until her death. He is survived by daughter, Linda Caldwell McCleary of Sun City. There will be a private family service in memory of Virlin.
