At a recent Buckeye City Council meeting, a Verrado High School team was recognized for its recently completed state-title run.
The Verrado Vipers won the 2022 Arizona 5A title, narrowly beating Marana, Catalina Foothills, Casteel, Horizon of Scottsdale and Nogales in the postseason to claim the crown.
Mayor Eric Orsborn read a proclaimation and shook hands with coach Darrell Hatfield and others in honoring the team in the opening moments of a council meeting.
The Vipers went 26-5 overall in 2022, winning 19 of their final 20 games. The team won the 5A Desert View title with a 9-1 mark.
