Viola Marie (Dolly) Nolan, 84, of Sun City, AZ died Sunday, January 27, 2019 after a brief illness. Vi was born June 19, 1934, on a ranch outside Springer, NM to Alfonso and Ramona Valdez (Trujillo).The family moved by train to Ogden, UT in 1940. She graduated from Ogden High School in 1951, went to Los Angeles City College and received her dental assistant certificate. She spent much of her career working in medical offices and eventually retired from the Phoenix VA Medical Center in 1999. Vi married Al Nolan May 12, 1956. They were two days shy of celebrating 59 years together when Al passed away May 10, 2015. They met in Ogden, UT where they started their family of four boys. In 1971, they moved to Phoenix and settled in Maryvale, where they lived until 2005 with the exception of a couple of years in Clovis, NM.After retirement, Vi and Al moved to Sun City. Vi was active in St. Joachim and St. Anne Parish and Saint Christopher's Episcopal Church in Sun City. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and spending time with her many grandchildren.She is survived by her children: Rick Nolan, Greg Nolan (Melissa Nolan), Tony Nolan (Tracy Nolan), and Gary Nolan (James Burns); brother, Bob Valdez; 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Saint Christopher's Episcopal Church 10233 W. Peoria Ave., Sun City, AZ on Sunday, February 24, at 2:00 P.M., followed by a celebration of Vi's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to AZ Pug Rescue where the last of many dogs she rescued had been saved (www.aparn.org).
