Vigilance needed as Arizona schools reopen during pandemic

Doctor prescribes ‘all of the above’ to prevent COVID-19 spread

As schools across the Valley continue to reopen campuses to in-person instruction, only a careful, consistent intervention can help prevent a new spike in COVID-19 cases.

This according to Dr. Anthony Ani, chief medical officer at Banner Children’s medical center, who said now more than ever it is important for everyone to follow guidelines for hand washing, social distancing and wearing face masks.

“All of these put together will help prevent the infection in the school-age children and also keep them from spreading the infection,” he said. “It has to be a multi-pronged approach. It has to be all of the above.” Dr. Ani told Daily Independent. “If we all maintain proper hygiene, practice social distancing, and wear face masks where social distancing is not feasible, we have a chance of containing the virus in a very significant way.”
