Vigil held for slain teen

San Tan boy died after assault at Queen Creek house party

As Queen Creek Police continue to investigate the beating death of 16-year-old Combs High School student Preston Lord, dozens of friends and family gathered Thursday night to remember a boy they said had a big heart and an infectiously happy personality.

A candlelight vigil was held for Lord in the courtyard of Combs High almost two weeks after he was assaulted at a Queen Creek house party on Oct. 28, before succumbing to his injuries on Oct. 30. According to Lord’s obituary, he died just a month after he turned 16.

Combs High is part of the J.O. Combs Unified School Dsitrict in the San Tan Valley area of Pinal County.
