Viewpoint Lake begins to drain in Sun City

Liner repair will take 1 year

The Recreation Centers of Sun City and its contractor, Aquascape, began work in earnest on repairing the liner of Viewpoint Lake, 10626 W. Thunderbird Blvd.

The repair is necessary to stop water from leaking in the man made lake. The first part of the process started July 1 when water was stopped from flowing into the lake. Aquascape officials are letting seepage and evaporation to drain some of the water, but the rest will be pumped out and temporarily stored on Lakes Golf Course, 10433 W. Talisman Road, and some of that water will be used to irrigate the golf course.

The lake is expected to be drained by September, and Aquascape crews will be in the lake bottom by October to remove sludge and other items, then remove the old liner and install the new one.
