The nonprofit Dream Flights is landing at Chandler Municipal Airport on Wednesday, March 27 to honor seniors and veterans from around the state with free flights in restored World War II-era biplanes.
The first flight takes off at 9 a.m. In the event of inclement weather, the flights will be rescheduled.
Dream Flights’ mission is to give back to those who served. During a 20-minute flight, "Dream Flyers" experience the freedom and exhilaration of soaring 1,000 feet in an open-cockpit-biplane.
Following the flight, the Dream Flyers receive a signed Dream Flights baseball cap and can take a group photo with the plane.
In the mail a few weeks later, Dream Flyers will receive a certificate customized with a photo of them sitting in the plane's cockpit.
Dream Flights has honored nearly 6,500 veterans and seniors in long-term care communities since 2011. In 2021, Dream Flights launched Operation September Freedom, a barnstorming event meant for veterans who've served within past 23 years.
The nonprofit's pilots, who primarily fly for major airlines and are active duty or retired military veterans themselves, volunteer their time.
Dream Flights are always free to participants. The organization relies on corporate sponsors, donors and individual donations to support its mission of giving back.
The public is invited to attend the March 27 event. Chandler Municipal Airport is located at 1675 East Ryan Road, Chandler.
