A Chandler man’s vehicle was swept into Weekes Wash on Monday due to fast-moving water and he was rescued by Apache Junction police.
At approximately 8:38 p.m. Oct. 13, the Apache Junction Police Department received a 911 call reporting that a vehicle had been swept into Weekes Wash near Fourth Avenue and Tomahawk Road due to fast-moving water, police said.
Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle and made contact with the driver, a 59-year-old man from Chandler. Officers told the driver to remain inside the vehicle for his safety.
Using a rope from a patrol vehicle, officers threw one end to the driver. After securing the rope, one of the officers entered the wash, reached the vehicle and safely assisted the driver out, police said.
The officer and driver made their way back to the road where they exited the water safely. Superstition Fire and Medical District responded to the scene, evaluated the driver, and cleared him without injury.
The vehicle was later recovered and towed to the driver’s residence once water levels subsided.
