Officials transported three people to the hospital with serious injuries after a traffic collision in Surprise, according to a fire spokesperson.

The incident occurred at about 8:15 p.m. Feb. 23 near Auto Show Avenue and Waddell Road, according to the Surprise Police Department.

Police say three vehicles were involved in the collision. The Surprise Fire-Medical Department arrived at the scene to evaluate the occupants for possible injuries. According to police, one person was transported to a local hospital for treatment after officials extracted them from a vehicle.

Battalion Chief Julie Moore said seven people were involved. Three of them - a 17-year-old female, an 18-year-old male and another person - were immediately transported to a trauma center for serious injuries. Another person sustained minor injuries, while three others refused transport and were treated at the scene.

The eastbound and westbound lanes on Waddell Road from Cotton Lane to Loop 303 were closed until after 10 p.m.

Police are investigating the cause of the collision.
