John Thompson lives in his car and prefers to live out of contact from people in Arizona’s Bradshaw Mountains. He said he receives food stamps but doesn’t like receiving any other services that would help get him back on his feet.
“Well you know it’s like, ‘John should be in a better position,’” he said one day while taking a break from the June heat at the Justa Center in downtown Phoenix.
He came into town back in February to try and get some work as an Uber Eats driver, but the engine in his 2007 Lincoln MKX blew a gasket and he’s been stuck ever since.
