Valley youth may lose mental health care access amid federal cuts

Trump announced he is canceling $1B in mental health grants

Arizona officials say it is too early to comment on the impact to youth from the Trump administration canceling $1 billion in school mental health grants, but mental health care experts say cutting funding could cause problems down the road.

Grant recipients were notified Tuesday the funding will not be continued after this year, drying out a source that helps local schools hire more psychologists, counselors and other mental health workers.

Announcements of the discontinuation came on the first day of Mental Health Awareness Month.
